Energy Strategy for Yukon

Energy Strategy for YukonEnergy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers released Yukon's energy strategy on January 23, 2009.

The Energy Strategy for Yukon details a long-term vision for the responsible development of energy resources for the benefit of Yukon's people, businesses and the environment.

 

The energy strategy addresses priority energy issues, including the following:

  • conserving energy and using it more efficiently;
  • increasing the supply and use of renewable energy;
  • meeting Yukon’s current and future electricity needs; and
  • managing responsible oil and gas development.

Public Consultation
A draft Energy Strategy for Yukon was released for consultation on May 12, 2008.

A summary of the comments that were provided during the public consultation is available. The Summary of Comments  51 KB provides an overview of the consultation activities. This document also summarizes the issues, concerns and observations that were raised during the public consultation for the draft Strategy.

The Yukon government appreciates the input received and thanks all those who contributed comments.

Technical Workshop 
A group of representatives from governments, the private sector and non-profit organizations attended a technical workshop in November 2007 to discuss principles and priorities for the Energy Strategy.

Background Research
Background research was conducted to facilitate the development of the Energy Strategy. This research is presented in the following series of reports.
