March 3-5, 2008 -- Small Commerical Air System Design
This introduction to design of small commercial air systems was a Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) certification course. 

November 29-30, 2007 -- Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT) Wood Burning Systems
Successful completion of this course (70% on the examination), when combined with the necessary 80 weeks of installation or sales experience results in WETT certification as a Technician or Advisor. This course introduced participants to skills and concepts such as system design and problem diagnosis, confirmed skills and knowledge acquired through field experience and supported on-the-job and in-store training.

November 26-28, 2007 -- Wood Energy Technology Transfer (WETT) Code Compliance
This course provided an overview of wood heating technology and the regulations that govern safe installation. The couse was for all members of the wood energy trade, and municipal, insurance and private home inspectors.

August 30th, 2007 -- Life Cycle Costing for Green Buildings
This was a long-distance learning pilot that introduced participants to life cycle costing as it applies to green building design.

February 12 - 14 2007 -- Three LEED Courses:
Canada Building Council LEED Canada Training Level I
The LEED Green Building rating system is a comprehensive, voluntary design and assessment tool that helps architecture, engineering and construction professionals improve building efficiency and measure the sustainability of their projects. This will be an intensive overview of the LEED Canada-NC 1.0 Green Building Rating System.

LEED Canada (CI) Commercial Interiors 1.0 Technical Review Workshop
LEED CI is an interior design tool used to minimize environmental impacts and maximize occupant comfort and performance of tenant spaces. This training session provides and in-depth discussion of the LEED-CI credit requirements and certification process and it will be integrated with the Level I course described above.

Integrated Process for HVAC systems design
This ½ day workshop introduces different HVAC systems that result in lower operational costs for building owners and reduced environmental impacts.

LEED for Contractors
This ½ day seminar introduces the LEED rating system and sustainable design issues that effect general and trade contractors, manufacturers and suppliers. It provides tips on construction waste management, commissioning green buildings, managing a sustainable construction site, and what materials to choose and why.

October 26, 2006 – Fuel Management 101
This Natural Resources Canada course is designed to assist fleet managers to prepare a fuel management plan for their company/utility/city fleet, implement the plan, and measure and monitor its success. Course topic included: 

  • Why participants should have an energy management plan;
  • How to make a plan;
  • How to benchmark fleets;
  • How to sell energy management plans to management and how to implement the plan, analyze the results and plan for the future.

June 26 & 27, 2006 and September 25-27, 2006 – Combustion Tests for Oil-burning Equipment
This course covered combustion theory, combustion testing and troubleshooting techniques. Emphasis was put on tests and observations required by the B139-2004 code, combustion basics, and combustion test equipment and methods and annual maintenance best practices.

June 15 & 16, 2006 -- Introduction to Solar Energy: Alternatives for the North

Course topics:

  • An overview of the solar resource in the Yukon
  • A review of solar technologies
  • Practical examples of solar energy applications
  • Design principles of active solar heating systems
  • Design principles of grid-tied and off-grid PV systems
  • Introduction to solar design software, including RETScreen
  • Cost calculations and financial viability
  • Solar system maintenance
  • Interpreting performance data

January 3 - 6, 2006 -- Wood Energy Technicians of British Columbia's "Northern Installers" Workshop
This workshop covered the rules for installing solid fuel burning appliances in residences. Participants received classroom instruction on codes, standards and installation practices. Participants also spent time on an actual work site, conducting an installation.
