The Sa Dena Hes lead-zinc mine is located approximately 45 km north of Watson Lake. It is owned by a joint venture between Teck Metals Limited (25% ownership),Teck Resources Limited (25% ownership) and Pan Pacific Metal Mining Corp. (50% ownership, a wholly owned subsidiary of Korea Zinc). The Sa Dena Hes Mine is currently in a state of Temporary Closure.
The property covers approximately 5,600 hectares. Production began at the Sa Dena Hes mine in August 1991, but due to low zinc prices, ceased its operations in November 1992. During the 14 months the project was in operation, the mine produced approximately 607,500 tonnes of concentrate containing 374,400 tonnes of payable zinc and 290,200 tonnes lead.
Infrastructure on site includes the underground mine, ore handling facilities, a conventional mill with a 1,500 tonne per day capacity, loadout facilities, tailings and reclamation system, shops, warehouse, security and first-aid office, a 200 person camp, administration building, and a 6.2 MW power plant.
